1996 Writeup – Monroe

Dave Glowacki, CEO of Glow Industries, a national wholesale distributor turned open the first installation of a hometown legacy. Faded army parachutes draped from the ceiling, dimmed fluorescent bulbs painted a shroud of mystery on the walls. Paneled windows, adorned in day glow flowers spanned the entire face of the building Lewis Ave, in the August heat, the HEAD Shed proto type cranked up its stereo and the first  of 22 years worth of incense sticks.

Now, as the cold of November rests itself on our town, another key is turning on Monroe Street. Nestled across from the Franklin Park Mall – right next door to Nick & Jimmy’s – another bud has blossomed. Having dropped the “Head” suffix from the doors, this hometown legacy will swing open today. The fifth “Shed” will turn up the stereo and light the burning embers of the incense sticks.

The Shed stores have a generational draw that few others can speak of. Spanning ions, the five Shed locations cater to Baby Boomers, Generation X, and everything in Between. General Manager, Tracy, attributes the appeal to the never ending product lines. We carry everything from Marilyn Monroe memorabilia to Marilyn Manson… We haven’t forgotten about the customers who gave us our start and we refuse to neglect those who continue to support us. She sites the staff at all 5 locations as major contributors to their ‘regular’ base. A friendly staff and virtually NO pressure sales attribute to the continuing facility.

The company now serves the Toledo area with four other Sheds: Lewis Ave, Woodville Road, Airport Hwy (just west of Spring Meadows shopping center), and BG on Wooster Street in BG (across from the University’s main campus.) Look for another addition to this collection of alternative boutiques. A new store ‘currently under wraps’  will adopt the former location of their Bowling Green location, which upgraded to a 2500 foot facility in October of this year.

The new Shed location boasts a 2000 square foot showroom. A sign at the street is to indicate this new arrival to the complex. The traditional Shed Logo prominent across Monroe St in red and yellow letters. At 4956 Monroe, the doors are open, The music is playing, the incense is burning, and the staff is waiting to please!
